From: Risė Huntley, 42, Toledo, Ohio, Head Start teachers assistant, Jejuandri@aol.com Date: 10/2/02 Hi all name-alikes!! As you have guessed, my name is Risė and I think this is so cool to have so many spelling variations in this name club. Yes, I was named after the wonderful Risė Stevens also and I am a first soprano. I have a soon to be 3-year-old son and an 11-year-old daughter. People have always molested the pronunciation of my name and I've resented it every time. Especially after I've corrected them at least 20 times! (smile) Really though, you Rises know how irritating it is to have to tell someone "sounds like Lisa" over and over again because sooner or later that's exactly what the lesson is... over... By the way could one of my fellow Risė sisters show me how to place the uhmlat over the "e" in my name using the keyboard? Thanks and much love to Rises from Risė. Background: My mother was Choctaw Indian and African American. My dad was African American. I was named after Rise Stevens the mezzo soprano opera diva: My late mother adored her! I have experienced constant mispronunciation, never finding anything personalized, the comment of how unique or pretty my name is (tell me something I DON'T know), and how some pregnant women say that if they have a girl they'll name her Risė. |
