After I submitted my experience, my daughter reminded me of another one that is kind of cute regarding my name. When my kids were little, ages 1 and 3, I had gone over to a friend's house where many people were gathered. As I walked in the door, he said to everyone, look who's here, it's Risa and Risa's pieces. Of course we all thought that was very funny. Another funny story happened when I was a teenager and my last name was Preiss (pronounced Price). We used to do funny things with our name like switching the first letter of the first and last name. So then Risa Preiss would be Pisa Reiss (piece a rice). So for the longest time, I was known in school as piecarice. It is actually my e-mail at home, pisareiss@prodigy.net Thank you for putting this web site together. It has been a lot fun reading all of the experiences and seeing what other "Risa's" look like. (Original comment) I believe I was named after my great-grandmother, Rissa. I was named after her probably because the Jewish religion name their young after dead relatives. My older sister was named Anne, after my father's mother who had died. The only other dead female relative was my great-grandmother. The only constant experience is that people are always taken off guard when I tell them my name is Risa. They ask how it is spelled and usually comment that it is either an unusual name, or a pretty name or something to that effect. I remember being a young girl of about 8. My two brothers, one 5 years older, the other 7 years older, both had girlfriends named Risa. Since I knew my name was unusual, I thought that was even more so. |
