Being Jewish, I was named after not one, but two great-grandmothers named Rose.

Many times I'm asked if Risa is short for "Theresa," which really drives me nuts. The only other Risas I know are also Jewish. I have a cousin who's 10 years older, also called Risa. In the city that I grew up in, there were a few Risas in the Jewish community. I was the only one in my age group — there were a couple older: one Reesa and a Riza — and a number that were younger.
