It's bizarre to me, because over the years, more and more people tell me they
know someone else named Risa, or they've heard the name before. In addition to
the TV shows mentioned (Seinfeld, Caroline in the City), there was recently an
episode of Ally McBeal that featured a character named Risa. It seems it is
becoming a more common Jewish name, which is so strange. I wonder why?
I did a search on Google and was shocked to see this come up, along with Web
pages for all the other Risas in the world. It's amazing! All the things
previously mentioned about not liking my name when younger but appreciating it
now... Confusion with Lisa, Theresa, Rita, Marisa, etc. Jokes about Reese's
Peanut Butter cups, and guys wanting a "Pisa" Risa. Always people
wondering what my name means. And a feeling that I'm more creative as a result
of feeling unique by having this name...
I'm Jewish, of Austrian heritage, and I was named after my grandmother, whose
name was actually Rebecca, but the specific name was inspired by Risė Stevens.
