From: Rhesa Dionne Gentry, HR generalist,
Washington State, rdionne2u@hotmail.com I just joined the society and after reading all the comments, I was surprised to see that I am the only member so far with my spelling: RHESA. I know there are others out there with the same spelling. With the H, I get a lot of people calling me Rhea or Resha, which I hate. Of course, I am not shy, so I correct them very politely. I have heard all the Reese's Pieces and Peanut Butter Cup jokes all my life. I do find it funny that people always think I have never heard that before. However, I use it to my advantage. When I meet someone who has a hard time with names, I always tell them to just remember Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and they won't forget my name. A quick cute story: My parents visited Texas a couple of years ago for my uncle's funeral. The Rhesa that I am named after was there, and she told my parents that her son had just started college, and came home for a visit and told her there was a girl named Rhesa in one of his classes. He said he was surprised that the girl even spelled it like his mother does. The mother then told him the girl's last name, and he was shocked. When he wanted to know how his mother knew it, she replied, "Because there are only two girls named after me, and the other one lives in Washington State!" When I was in high school I did get some crude comments from the guys about pieces. My best friend from school always called me Piece as a nickname — I hated it then and I still hate it now! I love being named Rhesa — I'm so excited to have learned of this site. My maiden name is Matthews and my middle name is Dionne (after Dionne Warwick; funny, another singer). I'm of Irish, Sicilian, and Indian decent; I'm very pale skinned though. I was born in Texas and named after a girl my parents went to high school with. I have lived in Washington State since I was 10 years old. Thanks to Reesa Marchetti for the site! |
