From: Reesa Stanley, 30, music store education consultant, Altoona, Iowa, USA Date: 5/25/03 I'm a United Methodist, named after Reesa Kay Jones, a country singer who grew up about 25 miles west of my hometown in southeast Iowa. Mom had read about her wedding in the local paper and fell in love with the name. I did get to meet her when I was about 12 and she was performing on at the Iowa State Fair. I got to see her before her show, and then she recognized me in the audience and dedicated a song to me. I also got an autographed copy of her album. I always look at the personalized items at the store, wishing I could find my name (and of course I don't). Also, when I tell people my name, they say they've never heard of it. I've discovered having an unusual name makes it easy for others to remember it, which can be both a good and bad thing. And of course while growing up there was the standard teasing. (Looking like "Annie" didn't help matters either.) At the music store, I work with a lady named Lisa. When I first started we would often get each other's phone calls. I also work part-time operating rides at a local amusement park and sometimes get confused with a co-worker named Teresa, who is one of my supervisors! I think this Web site is great. I didn't know there are several different spellings of Reesa. It's also great to know that I'm not the only person in the world with this name. When I was in eighth grade, I read a book with a main character named Reesa. As part of a project, I wrote the author to ask where she found the name. Turned out she had a friend who was named after the singer Rise Stevens. |
